CHRIST THE TEACHER COLLEGE OF EDUCATION (CTCE), APPIADU

THE PRINCIPAL’S ADDRESS:
BY VERY REV. FR. DR. LOUIS K. TUFFUOR
AT THE 2ND MATRICULATION OF THE COLLEGE
AT ODEEFUO OWUSU AMOAYE II CONFERENCE CENTRE
ON WEDNESDAY, 4 NOVEMBER 2015

In an address by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Louis K. Tuffuor, to the 81 newly admitted students (37 Males, 44 Females) at Christ the Teacher College of Education on Wednesday 4 November 2015, he said, among other things,  “Matriculants, as we admit and welcome you to CTCE, we exhort you to learn from your seniors, they have grown to appreciate their presence at CTCE. Looking at our Crest, you will find the proverbial bird Sankofa. Following the thought of John Dewey on the co-relationship between philosophy and education, your seniors have embraced the philosophy and educational methodology of Sankofa: “wo were fi na wo san kofa a yen kyi”. For CTCE, Sankofa simply means going back to basics. Apart from valuing the mission of the College, your seniors have allowed themselves to be proficient in reading, writing, arithmetic and morality, they are cherishing and benefiting from the essence of TEAM work. Remember, the word TEAM means Together Everyone Achieves More.”

Dear Matriculants, It is our aim to demonstrate that when students are challenged, they can perform. In the First Year, First Semester Examination, our results on the average were 50%; simply meaning that one half of our student-population of 50 passed all their papers without any re-sit. Not satisfied with the results, we re-energized our tutors and students to double their efforts in teaching and learning to attain 100% in all subjects. Even though we had 76% passes in our First Year, Second Semester results, we were very pleased with the details of the results. In other words, 38 out of the 50 students passed all their subjects without any re-sits. Over-all, we obtained 100% passes in five (5) subjects; namely, English, Education, Music, Catering and Physical Education.

Your Grace, Your Excellencies, I am so pleased to report that the strategies put in place are working so much that we have reduced our resist in Mathematics from 13 in the First Semester to eight (8) in the Second Semester. Our results were even more impressive in Integrated Science, the other fearful core subject; we had only one (1) re-sit versus five (5) in the First Semester. Finally, the Sixteen (16) re-sit in Environmental and Social Studies were reduced to only two (2). We will not rest until re-sits become a thing of the past.

P.S.: We have heard from the news, since Monday 23 November 2015, that several students in Colleges of Education have been withdrawn from school.  We had three casualties, meaning that one student was to repeat a re-sit as she was not able to register for the re-sit examinations in September and two students were withdrawn; however, they have the option to re-apply for fresh admission to Level 100.  For your information, the Professional Board of Principals and the Institute of Education at University of Cape Coast (UCC) are looking into this matter with the government for a fair and peaceful resolution.
